HEIDELBERG The Heidelberg Academy Rebels kicked their second season off with a 49-7 playoff victory over Central Holmes Christian School here, Friday night.
The Rebels upped their record to 10-1 overall as they get ready for the second of the playoffs next Friday night.
Central Holmes got on the scoreboard first, but it would be the only points the Trojans would score. The Trojans got the ball after tackling the Heidelberg punter on the three-yard line. Two plays later, Darren Lloyd rammed his way into the endzone for the touchdown. Robert Stewart kicked the extra point and the Trojans led 7-0.
The Rebels bounced right back. Brent Welch scored on a one-yard run, and Matthew Andrews notched another TD on 40-yard TD pass from Brooks Lewis. Mason Key kicked both extra points and the Rebels led 14-7 with 4:35 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Welch threw a 20-yard TD pass to Jeremy Eason. Key kicked the extra point and Heidelberg led 21-7 with 5:37 left in the first half.
Lewis then connected with Joe McLeod on a six-yard TD pass play. Key was again true with the extra point kick, and the Rebels led 28-7 with 23 seconds left in the half.
Blake Bass got the second half off to a good start for the Rebels as he returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. The kick was no good and Heidelberg led 34-7.
Brody Bustin put the Rebels on the scoreboard again with 3:50 left in the period as he scored on a four-yard run. Lewis passed to Bass for the two a point conversion and Heidelberg led 42-7.
The last touchdown in the game was scored by Jeremy Eason who rushed 36 yards to the goal. Key kicked the extra point. The final score of the game was Heidelberg, 49-7.
Central Holmes finished the season at 7-4.
Heidelberg Academy will take on Desoto (Ark) Academy in the second round of the playoffs next Friday night.
