Red Bay hosts golf invitational

For the seventh year, Red Bay High School invited surrounding team out for 18 holes to raise funds for the school’s golf program.

With 95 golfers from 14 schools, Coach Johnny Cleveland said this year was the strongest turnout by far. The invitational is becoming more well-known by word of mouth since it began.

“We used to, back many years ago, play in one other invitational each year somewhere,” Cleveland said. “We decided one year, ‘Hey, we can probably do this too.’”

Held at Redmont Country Club, the invitational included several teams from Franklin County – Russellville High School girls and Tharptown High and Phil Campbell High boys, in addition to Red Bay High boys and girls.

Medalist for the girls was RHS’ Ashton Moore, who won a shootout for a tie against RBHS’ Anna Seahorn. Moore shot an 87. The Russellville girls team took first place in the invitational (287), following by Corinth (327).

Boys medalist was RBHS’ Isiah Jackson, who shot a 70. In team scoring, Haleyville took first place (322), and Belmont took second (334).

Funds raised from the invitational help Red Bay pay fees and expenses for sectional, sub-state and state play.

The invitational is sponsored each year by Sunshine Mills.
