Meridian City Councilman Bobby Smith of Ward 5 hopes fellow councilmen will vote this week to name a city street after longtime businessman Hartley Peavey.
Smith said he's proposing to name Highway 493, from North Hills Street to the city limits, after Peavey a Meridian native who founded Peavey Electronics in 1965.
Peavey could not be reached for comment.
Peavey's electronics business is the largest manufacturer of musical instruments and portable sound equipment in the United States and is one of the area's largest employers.
Peavey is also a worldwide icon in the music industry, his name emblazoned across amplifiers, guitars and other musical equipment used by musicians across the world.
