Hurst, Hurst, Stegall take Lakeview win

The Lakeview Golf Course held its final round of its final tournament of the 2002 season on Wednesday.
A total of 18, three-person teams competed for the John O'Neal Johnson Senior Tournament at Lakeview. This will also mark the last time the final fall classic will be called the O'Neal Johnson Senior Tournament.
Taking home the tournament title was the Meridian team of Walter Hurst, Charles Hurst and Van Stegall. The trio won on a tie-breaker over the team of Johnny Boykin, Jim Williams and Mickey May.
Both teams fired two-round scores of 23-under, 121 (61-60). The third place team came from Newton and was made up of Don Cooper, Jerry Harrison and Creeper Nelson. The Newton team was two strokes back at 123 (62-61).
The first flight winners was the team of Ron Barnes, David Goetz and Gary Riddle with a 132. The team fired consecutive six-under 66's and a won a tiebreaker over R.C. Stokes, Larry Stokes and Doug Bass who also carded a two-round score of 132.
The third place team was Bob Rawson, Billy Goodman and J.D. Lewis with a 134 (66-68).
Winning the second flight was the team of Wally Hatcher, Martha Hatcher and Don McCarty. The shot a 134 (69-65).
The team of H.L. Childs, Leon Jones and Ed Pigott was second with a 136 (69-67). Placing third was the team of Tom Coats, J. Stewart and Charles Stewart with a 140 (71-69).
