New version of Jack's to open soon

By By Fredie Carmichael / staff writer
Oct. 1, 2002
Minutes after Jack's Sandwich Shop served its last burger Saturday, one worker at the small eatery began preparing to open his own restaurant later this month.
Jared Rainer, who worked behind the counter at Jack's on 24th Avenue for the past year, bought all the equipment and memorabilia from the former owner and began moving it shortly after it closed.
Even though the new restaurant will look like the old Jack's and serve the same food, Rainer said he plans to change the name to Jared's Sandwich Shop.
Jared's will have about three times more space than the small, narrow Jack's and will be located at a busier spot on Eighth Street.
But the atmosphere will be the same.
Rainer said former Jack's owner, Deloris Ogelsby, will work at the new shop to help him get his business going. He said he hopes all customers who used to eat at Jack's will give his place a try.
