Raeford Joe Murray, 66, Hackleburg (formerly of Russellville), passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.   He was the manager of Russellville Water Department for many years.  He loved to fish, and was a good friend to everyone who knew him.

The visitation was Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral followed in the chapel with Bro. Dennis Steward officiating.  Burial was at Bethlehem Cemetery with military honors.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Murray; stepchildren, Andrew Lindsey and wife, Tara, Jennifer Wooten and husband, Adam; Noah Shifflett; grandchild, Riley Lindsey; niece, Sheila Murray; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amanda Murray; parents, Edward and Versie Lee Murray; and brother, Odell Murray.

The pallbearers were Andrew Lindsey, Adam Wooten, Tommy Allen, Mike Jemison, Adam Anglin, Randy Wiggins, Jackie Bradford, and Keith Arnett.  The honorary pallbearers were George Humphries, Noah Shifflett, Gary Allen, and Russellville Water Department Employees.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ashely Burchell and the staff of Hospice of North Alabama for your love and care.  Also a special thanks to the many friends who has called, prayed or visited with Joe.
