Belgreen girls pick up pair of wins
On Jan. 13, the Belgreen varsity girls went to the backwaters of the Tennessee River and defeated the Waterloo varsity girls 64-46.
In the first quarter, eighth grader Jasmine Martin hit three three-pointers and Emma Riley hit one at the buzzer as the Lady Bulldogs took a 17-7 lead over the Lady Cougars after one.
In the second quarter, Laken Bragwell scored six of her 18 points and her sister, Allyson Bragwell, chipped in two of her nine points as Belgreen increased their lead to 27-16.
In the third quarter, Lexie Bragwell scored all six of her points and Martin added three more of her total 20 points to hold the Lady Bulldogs to their 43-32 lead over Waterloo.
In the fourth period, Brooke Williams hit a three in a big quarter for the Lady Bulldogs where five players scored a total of 21 points for the final tally.
The following night, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Bear Creek, where they came out with a big area win over the Phillip She-Bears.
With this 39-32 win, the Lady Bulldogs improved their overall record to 14-5 and their area record to 5-2 and locked up a second-place seed in the area tournament, which will be played at Tharptown this year.
In the first quarter, Lexie Bragwell scored two of her 16 points as the quarter came to an end in a tie 4-4.
In the second quarter, Allyson Bragwell scored six of her 11 points and her sister, Laken Bragwell, chipped in two as the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead 15-11 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Lexie Bragwell scored seven points and Jasmine Martin pitched in two as Belgreen increased the lead to 25-17.
Down the stretch in the fourth, eighth grade guard Abby Hester scored six of her seven points and picked up two of her four assists as the Lady Bulldogs held on for the victory.
