Bobcats end season with 40-6 loss to Hackleburg

By Bart Moss

The Phil Campbell Bobcats’ season came to an end on Friday night with a 40-6 loss to rival Hackleburg.

In the spirit of cooperation between two schools still picking up the pieces and rebuilding from the devastating tornadoes of April 2011, Hackleburg played their home game at Phil Campbell’s stadium. Both schools are currently in rebuilding mode. Hackleburg, however, is in their second season with no home football stadium.

Injuries forced the Bobcats to go with a third string quarterback against a very tough Hackleburg defense. The results were to be expected – 84 total yards on 24 carries and no pass completions.

The Panthers were able to roll up 252 yards on the ground and 157 yards through the air in route to the victory.

Hackleburg led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter and 22-0 at the end of the first half.

The Panthers added twelve more points in the third quarter to make the score 34-0.

Phil Campbell got their first score with 3:04 left in the game on a 5-yard run by Nicholas Smith.

Hackleburg added one final score as time expired on an 87-yard run.

Hackleburg will host Ragland in the first round of the playoffs. That game will be played at Phil Campbell.
