A Harvest of Harmony' concert set for Saturday

The first annual barbershop singing gala on Saturday, more formally called "A Harvest of Harmony," will feature a cappella groups from across the Southeast.
Melton said tickets already have been sold to people in Jackson, Quitman and Philadelphia, as well as Birmingham and Butler in neighboring Alabama.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. Saturday show also will be available at the door at Meridian Community College's McCain Theatre. Proceeds from the event will benefit Hope Village for Children.
The event is being hosted by the Meridian Barbershop Chorus, which will perform such songs as "God Bless America," "When Uncle Joe Plays on His Old Banjo," and "When It's Darkness on the Delta."
After the performance, don't forget the "After Glow" party, in which audience members mingle with the entertainers.
Groups appearing include:
The Meridian Barbershop Chorus Founded in 1999 by Melton, the chorus has performed for various community organizations and at area events. The 35-member group is directed by Ken Patterson.
The Alabama Jubilee Chorus The 20-member chorus from Birmingham began in 1966 as the Singing Gentlemen and has entertained since 1978 as the Alabama Jubilee. Tom Gordon is the director.
The Brick Street Quartet The Clinton-based group has been performing since 1996. With almost 40 years of combined barbershop experience, the group features, Rob Robbins, tenor; Greg Gibson, lead vocals; Brad Feaster, bass; and Bill Bacon, baritone.
Crossroads of the South Jackson's chapter of Sweet Adelines International is a 30-member, award-winning group directed by Marsha Fortune.
Heyday The Baton Rouge, La., group won awards in 2000 and 2001. Members include Alan Gauthreaux, bass; Ken Gabrielse, tenor; Chip Davis, baritone; and Art Swanson, lead vocals.
