Brandon Dyer, of Jackson, has been named to the Holmes Community College Ambassadors Recruitment Team for the 2002-2003 school year.
The students are recruited throughout HCC's nine-county district to serve as hosts for events on campus.
Dyer, a Meridian High School graduate, is the son of Teena Nance of Jackson. He is the grandson of Barbara Dean of Meridian and the great-grandson of Norma Martin of Laurel.
Jeff Roberts of Quitman has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy (USAA).
The USAA established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3, or higher, grade point average.
Roberts, who attends Quitman High School, will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.
The Academy selects All-American Scholars upon the recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors. Once awarded, the students may be recognized by the USAA for other honors.
Roberts is the son of Norman and Marsha Roberts of Quitman. His grandparents are Erma Kelly and Ruth Cooper, both of Quitman and Bill Roberts of Stonewall.
Dana Luquire has been selected to Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The honor recognizes her academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and leadership. Only 38 recipients were selected from over 300 nominees. Throughout college, she has been recognized as a Dean's List scholar as well as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society.
Luquire is a senior majoring in speech communication with a minor in public relations. At USM, she served as vice-president of public relations for Kappa Delta. She also served as intramural chairman, a Sisterhood Enrichment Team leader, she served on the standards board and has participated in intramural basketball, softball, flag football and soccer. Luquire also represented her sorority well when she received first place in Sigma Chi's Derby Darling competition.
She served as co-captain of the Diamond Darlings for the two years, was a senator for the college of liberal arts and served on the public relations committee for the Student Government Association. She has also been a part of Golden Girls, the Speech Communication Association and the Baptist Student Union.
Luquire was awarded free tuition at USM after winning a three-point basketball shootout. She served as Lauderdale's County 2000 Miss Hospitality and Lauderdale County's 1998 Junior Miss.
Upon graduation in May, she was accepted by USM graduate school where she will pursue her master's degree.
Jana Fern Hedglin of Meridian has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honor Society and was individually honored during a ceremony on the campus of Mississippi State University.
