Editor’s Note: Franklin’s Future is a regular feature spotlighting a high school senior in Franklin County and what they have planned for life after graduation.

For Vina senior Cody Renfrow, playing sports has been one of the best things about high school.
The 17-year-old athlete has been part of a few clubs such as Students Against Destructive Decisions and Leo Club, but the highlights of his extracurricular activities include being a member of the football and baseball teams.
Renfrow said he has always enjoyed sports, even when he was just a young boy, so playing school sports was a natural fit for him.
“There is just something special about being a part of a team and learning to work together for a common goal,” Renfrow said. “You learn how to work hard, work together and really bond with your teammates. When you do all those things, it makes you stronger as a team.”
Renfrow said his favorite memory from high school was from a football game.
“The very first game that I started was against Tharptown,” he said. “We didn’t know if we were going to win, but we ended up winning the game at the last minute. It was so exciting and something I’ll never forget.”
No doubt Renfrow said he would miss playing sports once he graduated in May but he also said he would miss his friends and the school he’s attended since kindergarten.
“With a small school like Vina, you just get closer to your classmates and they all become your friends,” he said.
“I’ll miss seeing my friends everyday and just being in a familiar place.”
After his high school days are behind him, Renfrow said he would more than likely head to Northwest-Shoals Community College, even though he is still undecided at the time about what school he would like to attend once he’s finished at NWSCC.
“I plan on getting my basics out of the way and then deciding where I want to go from there,” he said.
“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and a coach, so I’ll probably major in education to be a history teacher because history is my favorite subject and then I can coach, which I know I would enjoy.
“Coach Hamilton and Coach Pharr have been a big influence and have helped me a lot over the years. I learned a lot about coaching from them and I’d like to bee a good influence for kids one day like they have been.”
Renfrow said in the future he would like to settle down somewhere in Franklin County and hopefully get a job at one of the local schools.
“I like living in Franklin County because it’s not a really big place,” he said. “I like the small town, county atmosphere where everyone is laid back.”
When he isn’t planning for the future or playing sports, Renfrow said he enjoys hanging out with his friends and watching football.
Renfrow is the son of Kelly and Wendy Renfrow and he has one younger brother, Tyler.
