MCC ends season at nationals

The men's and women's tennis team at Meridian Community College topped off a very successful season with a trip to nationals last month.
The women's tournament was scheduled to be played at Texas A&M but was moved to a high school. The women's team was able to overcome the let down and ended up ranked No. 19 in the nation.
In the Singles Flight 2, Charlotte Heidelberg of MCC lost to Joke Oni 6-4, 6-2 and later fell in the consolation bracket.
Megan Chivas competed for MCC in the Singles Flight 2. She was ranked No. 6 and had a bye the first round of competition. Laura Sukup defeated Chivas 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. The loss sent Chivas to the consolation bracket where she made her way all the way to the semifinals.
Amanda Carden won her first match against Criss Cuervo 6-4, 6-0 to move into the second round in Singles Flight 3. Carden fell in her next match with No. 5 ranked Lauren Oakleaf.
Anna Bailey dropped her first match with Sarah Casale 6-3, 6-0 in the Singles Flight 4. Bailey recovered to win her next match in the consolation bracket before falling in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.
Cassie Joyner lost her first match to Jill Tomasello 6-3, 6-3 and later fell in the consolation of the Singles Flight 5. Jill Hathorn drew No. 2 ranked Nicki Tafola in the first round of Singles Flight 6 and lost 6-1, 6-1. Hathorn later fell in the consolation bracket.
The men competed in the national tournament nearly a week later and met up with some tough competition.
Will Wiggins competed in No. 1 Singles and lost to Jeff Garrett 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Matt D'Angelo in the consolation. D'Angelo made the final round in the consolation bracket.
Matt McElhaney lost to Taylor Vaughn 6-1, 7-5 in the first round of No. 2 Singles and fell in the Quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.
Robert Barton lost to Francisco Gomez 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 Singles and also fell in the Quarterfinals of consolation.
Brad Dearman started the tournament with a bye and lost in the second round of No. 4 Singles to No. 4 ranked Phillip Merrill. Merrill made his way all the way to the Semifinals before falling.
Kevin McDonald lost to Cody Leonard 7-5, 6-0 in No. 5 Singles and later fell in the Quarterfinals to consolation bracket winner Nick Wesling after beating Jason Garner 6-1, 7-5.
Dustin Davidson won his first match in No. 6 Singles. He beat Ryan Ball 6-0, 6-0 but fell to Josh Cobble 6-0, 6-0 in the next round. Cobble made the final round before losing.
