Moore elected probate judge

Riding a wave of straight ticket Republican votes, Probate Judge Barry Moore was elected to a full term Tuesday night.

Moore has served as probate judge for more than five years after being named to the position by former Gov. Bob Riley following former judge Mike Green’s death in 2007.

Tuesday, though, Franklin County voters elected Moore to remain in that post for six more years.

Moore defeated Green’s widow, Connie Green, 6,134 to 4,677.

“I want to thank my family and friends that have helped campaign and I want to thank the voters for exercising their right to vote and for allowing me to continue to serve them,” Moore said.

“It really is a humbling experience for the people to put their trust and confidence in me.”

Green, who is a long time business owner in the county, said she was thrilled to receive the support that she got in the Democratic primary and again in Tuesday’s general election.

“Well, I just said that whatever God’s will was, was what would happen,” she said.

“Barry has done a good job and I wish the best for him and all the commissioners and I pray that they will seek God’s will in all they do.”

Moore will serve with three new commissioners and the long holdover, Don Hastings.

Tuesday marked the first time in recent history that a Republican has been elected to an office in Franklin County. Along with Moore’s win, Republicans Chris Wallace and Rayburn Massey won terms to the commission.
