William Clanton Hovater, 76, Moulton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his residence.
He was a native of Franklin County, but had lived in Lawrence County most of his life. He was a member of Old Town Creek Baptist Church and served as deacon for 46 years. He served our country 10 years in the Air Force. He was retired from Monsanto.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, 11 a.m. at Old Town Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Sherrill and Rev. Barry Cater officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Moulton.
Survivors include wife, Gwendlyon Reed Hovater, Moulton; children, Judy Britnell and husband, Ronald), Hartselle, Chrystal “Chris” Sherrill and husband, Mike, Haleyville, Sandy McKinney and husband, Danny, Spruce Pine, Alice Kimbrough and husband, Robin, Mt. Hope; mother, Dora Lee Plott Killis, South Elgin, Ill.; sisters, Shirley Towe and husband, Clyde, O’Fallon, Mo., Shelby Watt, Ft. Myers, Fla., Katie Martin and husband, Jim, Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brad Coan, Josh Britnell, Heath McKinney, Chandler Kimbrough, Gabe Willis, Brandon Bradley, Hank Dutton, Lee Roberts.
Honorary bearers will be Deacons of Old Town Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by father, William Henry Hovater.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International or Old Town Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
