Red Bay baseball
The Red Bay Tigers beat Mars Hill Bible 5-2 in seven innings Monday behind Houston McKinney, who went 1-3. He tripled in the sixth inning.
The Tigers relied on Troy Borden to eat up innings en route to the win. Borden pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, seven hits and three walks while striking out four.
The bottom of the second saw Mars Hill Bible take an early lead, 2-0. A solo home run by Jake Farris started the inning off. The scoreboard lit up again for Mars Hill Bible when Smith scored on an RBI triple by Sam Segars.
Red Bay never trailed after scoring two runs in the fourth on a groundout by McKinney and an RBI single by Landen Burgett.
The Tigers built upon their lead with two runs in the sixth. McKinney kicked things off with a triple, scoring Kaleb Bragwell.
Belgreen Softball
The Belgreen Bulldogs picked up a couple of wins last week with a 12-2 win over Covenant Christian and an 8-4 win over Waterloo.
The Bulldogs run-ruled Covenant in five innings. Krista Sikes was the winning pitcher. She pitched a five-inning complete game and had six strikeouts and gave up only four hits.
Katie Dempsey went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and scored two runs. Emmie Scott went 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Sikes went 1-for-1 with two walks and a double. Kylie Murray went 1-for-2 and score two runs. Camie Terrell scored two runs on two walks.
Belgreen scored six runs in the second inning and four in the fourth inning.
Sikes also picked up the win against Waterloo. She pitched five strikeouts and gave up eight hits.
Scott went 3-for-4 in the game. Dempsey went 2-for-4 with a single and an inside-the-park home run. Sikes went 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Terrell went 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Murray also added a single.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth innings.
The two wins improved the Belgreen’s record to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the area.
