RHS to host softball tourney this weekend

by Bart Moss for the FCT

The Russellville Golden Tiger softball team will be hosting the 2nd Annual Spring Frenzy, March 13-14.

The tournament will be held at multiple locations: Russellville High School, Hal Kirby Park, Eastside Park, and Strange Field.

There will be 26 teams in three divisions: junior high (10), junior varsity (6), and varsity (12).

“We are looking forward to an exciting tournament,” said Russellville coach John Smith.  “These teams have missed a lot of games already due to the bad weather.  I’m sure they will all be excited and ready to play.  It should be fun a event.”

Champions from all three divisions last year will be returning to the tournament this year including Tharptown (varsity champions), Hatton (junior varsity), and Moulton Middle School (junior high).

Some other teams in the Spring Frenzy this year are Ardmore, Florence, Wilson, Rogers and Colbert Heights.

“We are pleased to have such good quality competition coming to play in this tournament,” Smith said. “We hope the weather will be great and everyone can come outside and enjoy some softball.”
