I was flipping through the TV channels this past week trying to find something I could watch that didn’t involve middle-age reality stars or talking heads when I stumbled across a show about Prince William and his new bride, Kate (who is now known as the Duchess of Cambridge).

I stopped to see what the show was about because, like millions of other people, I am fascinated by the royal family and I devoured all the news and pictures and TV specials about their wedding. I love weddings anyway, but seeing something with so much pomp and circumstance, something so regal and refined… there’s just something about it I love.

Well, after watching the show for a few minutes, I realized the focus of the show was on the “royal baby watch,” and that apparently, the media overseas in absolutely falling all over themselves to be the first ones to capture Kate with what would appear to be a “baby bump.”

(And can I just say right now, I hate the term “baby bump.” It sounds so ridiculous. Why not just say, “She looks like she’s expecting?”)

Anyway, after realizing the focus of the show, I just shook my head and turned the channel. I mean for Pete’s sake. William and Kate haven’t even been married for four months and people are already tapping their watches wondering what they’re waiting for.

Now, if Kate steps outside in something that might be slightly less than flattering or in something that’s oversized and baggy, she’ll either be accused of having a “visible baby bump” or of trying to “conceal a baby bump” and all that will accomplish is making her feel bad about the way she looks.

Believe me, I know how important it is to be the first one to have the latest breaking news, but can the paparazzi not just let these two have some peace for a little while? Has the paparazzi forgotten that their constant hounding of William’s mother, Princess Dianna, was what ultimately got her killed?

Geez.

I enjoyed seeing pictures of Kate in her wedding dress and William in his full wedding attire. I thought it was sweet to see their traditional first kiss on the balcony and the scores of people cheering outside the gates. I loved watching the footage of the ceremony and watching as these two people became the new royal couple. But at some point, a line has to be drawn.

The royal wedding was a major affair that the entire world took part in. But no one needs to see Kate going for a jog in the morning or William grabbing a coffee or the two of them shopping at a store.

I know it’s wasting my breath to say so, but I wish the paparazzi would give them some room and just let them live their daily lives. But I guess a picture of Kate blowing her nose would be too important to do that.
