Meridian man wins award

JACKSON Sam Forbert Jr. of Meridian has received the Spirit of Volunteerism award presented at the annual meeting of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Forbert received the prestigious medal for his performance "above and beyond the call of duty" and setting a positive example for the entire organization.
The ESGR annual awards banquet was at the Clarion Hotel in Jackson.
Retired Maj. Gen. Bobby Hollingsworth, national director for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, was the guest speaker. He presented the awards along with Thomas H. Bowen Jr., state chairman of ESGR.
The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency whose mission is to promote public and private understanding of the National Guard and Reserves and to gain employer and community support for the Guard and Reserves program.
