A school bus driver and a 17-year-old high school student were taken to a hospital after a Lauderdale County school bus and Ford Explorer collided early this morning.
The accident happened at about 7:20 a.m. on Highway 19 South, just north of Sandflat Loop Road. The bus, filled with 16 children, was headed for Southeast Attendance Center.
State Highway Patrol Trooper Roy Benamon said none of the children appeared to be injured. They were picked up by another bus at the accident scene and taken to school.
Benamon said the bus driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital with undetermined injuries. Lauderdale County Schools identified the driver as Lisa Hinson.
Benamon also said the driver of the Ford Explorer, Michael Rice, a senior at Southeast High School, was taken to the hospital by his mother. Rice was bleeding from a head injury.
