U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering will be in East Mississippi Saturday and Monday.
On Saturday at 4 p.m. he will be at Aldersgate Retirement Community, 6600 Poplar Springs Drive, where he will meet with senior citizens and others to discuss Medicare, Social Security and prescription drugs.
On Monday at 10 a.m., Pickering will meet with veterans at the American Legion in downtown Philadelphia to discuss veterans issues, the war on terrorism and the situation with Iraq.
Pickering, 39, a Republican, faces fellow U.S. Rep. Ronnie Shows, 55, a Democrat, in the Nov. 5 general election for the redrawn 3rd Congressional District.
Pickering represents the current 3rd District, while Shows represents the 4th District. The two were forced into the redrawn 3rd District when Mississippi lost one of its five U.S. House seats.
