Meridian Community College's theater and music departments will hold auditions for a production of The Wizard of Oz on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in MCC's Ivy Hall Room 162.
The musical will be presented Feb. 13-15, 2003, with Ronnie Miller as stage director; Bob Hermetz as vocal director; Carol Merrill as choreographer; and Carey Smith as orchestra conductor.
The stage version of the great 1939 movie starring Judy Garland has all the same great characters and songs that made The Wizard of Oz one of the classics of all time, said Miller.
The principal singing roles to be cast are Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion, Mayor of the Munchkins, Munchkin Barrister, Munchkin Coroner, Sorceress of the North (Good Witch) and Gloria. There are several non-singing and singing roles also to be cast including the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wizard of Oz, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, plus other minor parts including Munchkins.
Music from the play and a piano accompanist will be used for the singing auditions and various scenes from the play will be used for the acting auditions.
Students and community people of all ages and sizes are needed for the show with upward of 50 people to be cast.
For those who are unable to make the 12:30 audition time, contact Hermetz at MCC 484-8642 or Miller at 484-8666 and additional audition times may be arranged.
