QUITMAN The ShowStoppers from Jackson will be the featured performers Saturday at the 27th Annual "Day in the Park" at Clarkco State Park.
The ShowStoppers, a group of 35 students ages 7 to 18 from all over the state, will entertain the crowd with their music and dance routines.
Read and her husband William, who serves as the park manager, organized the event almost three decades ago.
Local entertainers will include Angela White, who just stared as Annie in the Meridian Little Theater production of "Annie Get Your Gun."
Brad Griffin of Clinton and Bruce Sellers of Meridian will make appearances. Courtney Riley, the Stonewall Quartet, Jeannie Mollett, Mattie Lee, Karen and Jeff Coats, the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Mixed Ensemble and Ace will also perform.
A variety of hand-crafted items will be available for purchase from area vendors. Items will include beaded jewelry, wrought iron, air-brushed shirts, woodcrafts, suncatchers, baskets, angels and cypress porch swings.
The aroma of good food will also fill the air, including chicken-on-a-stick, hamburgers, funnel cakes, chiliburgers, fried dill pickles, fried apple pies, bloomin' onions and, of course, homemade ice cream.
All entertainment events are free and open to the public. There is a cost for food and crafts, as well as a fee into the park of $2 a car.
Read is expecting a large crowd to enjoy the day of fun.
JUST THE FACTS
Clarkco State Park is about 20 miles south of Meridian and five miles north of Quitman on Highway 145. For information, call 776-6651.
