The 2001-2002 Fall/Winter season has come to a close with league champions being decided in several leagues during the past week. The Philadelphia team State Farm, made up of Pug Kea, Jack Madison, Burdell Barnes,Mike Baker and Jerry Greelee took home the championship in the Hucklebuck league. In the Tuesday Night Mixed league XODUS once again took the coveted title. The team members were Richelle Porter, Sidney Porter, Jim Broderick and Mark Kilgore. Bowleretts championship were the team of Burns and Burns with Verniece Scott, Judy Harwell, Dot Pace and Beth Shannon. Thursday night's Queen City league saw the Shi-Nell industries team of C.O. Gray, K Mike Cothern, Bill Fike, Chuck Gray and Tim Van Doren take home the title. I will have the results of the Ball and Chain league roll off next week. Congratulations to all of our league champions!
This week, all summer leagues will hold organizational meetings and start bowling. The Adult-Jr Baseball league began last night while the Tuesday Summer Mixed league meets and starts tonight . The Summer Trio league Thursday night and the Summer Ball and Chain kicks off Friday. Remember, all leagues will start at 7:00 p.m., so be at the lanes by 6:30 for the meeting this week so that the league can begin on time. If you miss this week's start, you can still enter and league by next week.
The 55th Annual Mississippi State Tournament continues this weekend as the fourth of six weekends of competition gets under way. Look for current results and standings elsewhere in this section. Also, you can find top ten standings online at bowling100.com .
OOPS….. Last week I said goodbye to Candace and Johnnie Blackmon, who were supposed to be leaving us to move to Florida. However, I have learned that the couple will not be leaving us as planned, but have decided to stay in Meridian. Florida's loss is certainly our gain and gladly " welcome them back" to our bowling community.
Don't forget that the State Games of Mississippi will follow the conclusion of the Men's State tournament. Entry forms are available at the Both Dixie Bowl and McCain Lanes. Classifications are based on average and gender. Bernard Hoy is the commissioner fir the Bowling event. Contact his at 482-2207 if you need assistance in entering. Following that, when your child bowls contact Leaon Fike.
