The Question …
Shirley Walker has been the head women's basketball coach at Alcorn State University for the past 24 years, and has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference coach of the year nine times, including five consecutive from the 1991-92 season to the 1995-96 season. Who was Alcorn's first women's basketball coach?

PHILADELPHIA There have been plenty of memorable moments during the girls' winning streak at Choctaw Central that is now 79 games strong. Add Tuesday night's Division 5-3A showdown with Southeast Lauderdale to the list. In a contest that was truly a tale of two halves for Southeast, Choctaw won a 91-78 shotout-despite a fairy-tale effort of 48 points from Monique Horner.
DECATUR When the East Central Community College Lady Warriors get their running game untracked, they can be a pretty tough opponent. The Lady Warriors racked up 55 points in the second half to defeat the Jones Junior College Lady Bobcats 83-68 Tuesday night. Jones entered the game ranked No. 15 in the latest NJCAA poll. The Jones men claimed a 91-86 victory in the nightcap.

Wayne County will not win its six straight boys title in the Sam Dale Basketball Tournament. Southeast Lauderdale's Tigers saw to that Thursday night. Johnny Hopson's 17-foot jumper with four seconds left in overtime banked off the glass and thhrough the net, and Southeast shocked Wayne County 81-80 in first-round Sam Dale action at Northeast Lauderdale.
On a night where weather conditions would have made it easy to cancel the game, the Northeast Lauderdale girls soccer team got arguably the biggest win of its three-year existence. Beaten in the previous two years and in the preseason this year, Northeast finally solved the riddle of Laurel-R.H. Watkins and came away with a 1-0 win in sub-freezing temperatures on a field soaked by rain all week.

The Meridian Lady Wildcats remained unbeaten in Division 5-5A play Thursday night, with a 51-47 win over Heidelberg. Coupled with league wins over Brandon and Wayne County, the Lady Cats (15-6) are 3-0 in 5-5A.
Eric Parker shot the ball from the top of the key. He also shot the ball from the baseline. But Parker nearly always shot from behind the 3-point stripe. In the end, the Sumter, S.C., native drilled seven 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead Meridian Community College to an 85-66 victory over visiting Clarke College Thursday night.

The Answer …
Shirley Walker.
She is the only coach the program, which began in the 1978-79 school year, has ever known.
Sports Faces …
Daniel Burns
Daniel Burns would be considered the second scoring option for the Enterprise Bulldogs.
That's because he plays on the same team with a 6-foot-5 star senior Cory Boggan. Burns, though, does gets his looks every game. He averages 16 points a game.
As for being the second option, Burns doesn't mind being in Boggan's shadow.
