Filling a need in the area for its services and being involved in the community are priorities for Office Depot, which officially opened its store Saturday in Meridian.
Grand opening ceremonies kicked off with music by the Meridian High School Symphonic Band, which received a gift of $500 from the store. Also receiving gift funds was the Boys and Girls Club of Meridian.
Organizations that help children will receive a lot of attention.
The Parent Teacher Association will be a focus of the store's community involvement, as will showing appreciation for teachers.
Jones said he has been impressed with the reception the store has received in Meridian since its unofficial opening on Dec. 21.

Jones said the store, about 23,000 square feet in size, is an average size for most of their stores. However, Jones said, many people are using the Internet for their shopping needs  a growing market for Office Depot.
Jones said the store employs about 25 staff members.
