United Way short of goal, but still optimistic

By By Steve Gillespie/The Meridian Star
Dec. 9, 2001
The United Way of East Mississippi is short of its fund-raising goal of $800,000, but all of the pledges are not in yet.
Currently the organization is at 60 percent of its goal, about $480,000. But Sutton said the full goal may still be realized.
This year United Way had more territory with which to work, spreading its coverage into other East Mississippi counties.
Employee contributions from area businesses and industry makes up most of the annual fund-raising campaign, which traditionally begins in October.
Last year, the campaign closed in March with $432,000 of a $750,000 goal. Contributions received after the cut-off date go into the next year's campaign.
