Senior bowling tournament winds down at Dixie Bowl

The 21st annual Mississippi State Senior Bowling Tournament concludes this week at Dixie Bowl Lanes. The field composed of both doubles and singles are vying for championship trophies in five separate age divisions and the opportunity to represent Mississippi in the National Seniors Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. By week's end over 200 bowlers age 50 and over will have competed, including Meridian's oldest bowler, Jamie Hagwood, who is participating at a very young 94 years old.
Next up is the Meridian YABA City Tournament, scheduled for December 15 &16 at Dixie Bowl. Parents of participating bowlers are reminded that this Saturday, December 8, is the deadline to have entries and fees turned in. If you have any questions or wish to volunteer to assist, contact Candace Blackmon or Leon Fike.
In local action on the lanes this week, Robert Brown led all bowlers with a 752 series. The high game of the week was captured by Leon Fike who spared and reeled off eleven straight strikes for a 290 game. Keep trying, Leon. You are gonna get yet! Deshon Davis fired a 279 game while on his way to his first career "7", a nice 728 series in the Wednesday Night Mixed league. Other bowlers making the board this week were M.A. Copeland, Leon Fike, Don Sabella, Robby Relinski, Johnnie Blackmon, Mike Cothern, Barry Woods and Ronnie Thomas.
The ladies were led by Jan Kasper with a 223/619. Cathy Jones got her two cents worth in (doesn't she always?) with a 233/604 to take the high game of the week while bowling in the Tuesday Night Mixed league. Nonie Embrey got into the act with a nice 223.
All leagues are back in session until the Christmas break and as second round action winds down, tight races are to be found in many leagues as teams attempt to capture one of those all-important roll off spots.
Don't forget the bowler in your life during the next few weeks. Balls, bags, shoes and accessories make great gift ideas.
