Neshoba Central's Walkers are double trouble

By By Jamie Sullivan/The Meridian Star
Dec. 3, 2001
PHILADELPHIA When the Neshoba Central High School boys basketball team hits the floor, opposing coaches may think they are seeing double.
The way the Rockets and Tawon and Tavares Walker have been playing lately, it probably feels like it.
The Walkers were born in Chicago and moved to Neshoba County four years ago.
The Walker brothers have been playing basketball since the sixth grade, and both hope to continue to play after high school.
You would think the older brother would take the lead in everything, but that is not always the case. Tawon is 13 minutes younger than Tavares but is the leading scorer between the two. Tawon dropped in 24 points in the Rockets' 60-57 win over Newton County Friday night, compared to 15 by his older brother Tavares.
Both of the athletes feed off of each other on the court. Neither one would admit who was the better player.
When Tawon was asked how it felt to have a twin on his team, he simply said, "It's pretty cool to have my brother on the team. He pushes me to do my best, and I hope I push him to do his best."
The boys both enjoy watching NBA, but have different players they look to for leadership.
Smith took no time in answering, when asked if he would like the Walkers to have the ball with the game on the line.
