QUITMAN Sports fans will soon have another outlet to keep up with all the scores.
Conquer Communications of Terre Haute, Ind., is in the process of purchasing WBFW-AM radio station from Quitman Broadcasting Co., pending FCC approval. Quitman Broadcasting's FM station, WYKK 98.9, is not involved in the deal.
Conquer officials plan to begin broadcasting its national and local sports programming on the 1,000 watt, daytime station Friday. WBFW was the original radio station in Clarke County and can be found at 1500 on the AM dial.
Once the deal is finalized, Beasley said his company would most likely begin the process of becoming a 24-hour-a-day station. He said the call letters will be changed to WQMS.
Beasley plans to start a local high school coaches show on Saturday morning. He said the station most likely will broadcast local ballgames and dirt track races. The company is also in contact with the New Orleans Saints, the Tennessee Titans and the Atlanta Braves about broadcasting some of their games, Beasley said.
This is the first station for Conquer to operate, Beasley said. He added that the company's goal was to operate 15 stations within five years. Joe Dunagay of Terre Haute, Ind., is the C.E.O.
