Two Meridian men remained in jail Thursday night after being arrested and charged with two armed robberies and two attempted armed robberies.
Meridian police arrested Phillip Todd, 19, 2427 Fourth Ave., and Michael Carr, 21, 2104 20th St., Wednesday. Both were being held in Lauderdale County jail on an $85,000 bond.
The arrests came one day after a group of residents appeared before the Meridian City Council to express their concerns about an apparent upswing in gang and drug-related crimes in their neighborhoods.
Police make arrests
Todd and Carr were taken into custody at 9 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex on North Hills Street, Harper said. They were charged in the armed robbery of a pizza delivery man that occurred minutes earlier.
The delivery man sustained minor injuries. Harper would not name the apartment complex.
Harper said the two men also are charged in the attempted armed robbery at 7 p.m. Wednesday of a guest at a South Frontage Road motel. He wouldn't say if the victim was a man or woman and wouldn't identify the motel.
Harper said that a motel guest was approached by a man armed with a handgun. The man demanded the victim's wallet, he said, and then struck the victim in the back of the head with a gun.
That's not all.
Harper said that Todd and Carr are suspects in the attempted armed robbery at 8 p.m. Wednesday of a man outside his car at an apartment complex on Highway 39.
The victim escaped unharmed after a man armed with a handgun demanded money. Harper would not identify the apartment complex where the attempted robbery took place.
No charges have been filed in that case.
Suspects face charges
However, Harper said that Todd and Carr also are charged in an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery both of which took place Nov. 12.
The attempted robbery occurred at 8 p.m., when two men approached a woman outside her home in Northwood Commons. The men fled when the woman screamed.
The armed robbery happened 30 minutes later, when two men approached a man outside of a business on 14th Street. The man was robbed at gunpoint and was unharmed.
Harper wouldn't identify the business where the robbery took place.
