Suspect sought on arson charges

Police said they have identified a suspect who is still at large in connection with a Sunday fire that damaged a home at 4029 South St.
Detective Deano Harper, police spokesman, said warrants were issued Tuesday for the arrest of 37-year-old King Edward Hudson on charges of arson, arson in the third degree and aggravated assault-domestic violence.
Fire Chief Bunky Partridge said the investigation into the fire, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, is ongoing. Investigators have not yet identified the source of the fire, which caused moderate damage.
Harper said the victims were able to get out of the house safely with the help of neighbors.
Harper said the arson charge stems from the actual burning of the house as opposed to the third-degree arson charge, which is connected to the burning of a car at the home. The aggravated assault-domestic violence charge is based on an altercation before the fire started, he said.
The suspect is described as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing about 190 pounds. Residents with information can call CrimeStoppers at 485-1860.
Meanwhile, police have detained a suspect in connection with an attempted armed robbery Monday at a local motel. Harper said a man staying at Motel 6 was accosted by two men who allegedly tried to rob him in his motel room around 10 p.m.
Harper said the name of the suspect is being withheld pending charges.
