The Lamar School Raiders are a young football team, but they are not so young that they do not understand the challenge they will be facing tonight when they travel to Clinton, La., to take on Silliman Institute.
Silliman, the No. 1-ranked team in MPSA AAA according to The Jackson Clarion-Ledger, is 11-0 on the year and has beaten several good teams, including traditional power Jackson Prep by three touchdowns.
Barnes, said this gives him a good opportunity to stress some important points to his 3-8 Raiders.
Wide receiver Zach Moore and tailback J. Grantham will be the only senior starters on offense, while senior nose guard William Anderson is the only upper classman on defense.
Senior linebacker Stanton Lauderdale is out with injury, while senior linebacker Thomas Walters is expected to miss the game due to illness.
Seven sophomores Q led by quarterback Drew Moffett Q will be starting on offense, while four sophomores and four freshmen will get the nod on defense.
Moffett has passed for 1,246 yards and nine touchdowns and rushed for 647 yards and 10 scores this year.
Zach Moore has 44 catches for 718 yards and six touchdowns, while Dylan Anderson, who may see limited playing time due to an injury, has rushed for 561 yards and five scores this season.
Despite the team's record, Barnes said he felt great strides had been taken by his team this season.
