After a roller-coaster weekend, the Lamar School Raiders will be getting a taste of what playoff football will be like when they play host to Starkville Academy on Friday night.
The MPSA Class AAAA Vols come into the 7:30 p.m. game at Grey Cobb Field with only one loss that coming against Jackson Prep.
After Friday's game with Starkville, the Raiders will begin preparing to take on the No. 1 ranked team in MPSA AAA in the first round of the playoffs when the travel to Clinton, La. to face Silliman Institute.
It looked like the Raiders would miss the playoffs when they lost to Manchester Academy 19-10 last week. But Copiah Academy upset Central Hinds Academy 27-9 on the same night, leaving Manchester and Lamar tied for the league lead with 2-1 records. That put Lamar in the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Division 3-AAA.
The 3-7 Raiders will be facing a big and fast team in Starkville on Friday.
The Raiders started three freshmen on defense and nine sophomores on offense last week.
