Tournaments highlight hoops schedule
Several basketball tournaments highlight this week's prep hoops schedule.
Clarkdale High School plays host to the Tip-Off Tournament on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Tuesday's action has Clarkdale and Enterprise facing off with the girls game beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
The same times and format on Thursday have Southeast Lauderdale and Newton County playing each other. Saturday features the girls consolation game at 4 p.m. and the boys at 5:30 p.m., with the girls title contest tipping off at 7 p.m. and the boys starting at 8:30.
Lamar School, Kemper Academy and Central Academy are all taking part in the Oak Hill Girls Tournament this week.
Central faces Oak Hill at 4 p.m. today. Lamar takes on the winner of that contest at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Kemper has a first-round bye and is set to face the Starkville-Heritage winner on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Losers' bracket games are set for Thursday, with the finals scheduled for Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
In other tourney action this week Wayne Academy is in the Columbia Girls Tournament, Leake Academy is in the East Holmes Girls Tournament, and Kemper County and Noxubee County High School are both in the Noxubee County Tournament in Macon.
The previews of the six Lauderdale County high schools boys' basketball teams will run in Wednesday's Meridian Star.

MHS soccer boys scoreless in Clinton
The Meridian High School boys soccer team had a tough go of it on Saturday in the Clinton Preseason Tournament, as they were without 11 players.
MHS tied Clinton 0-0, and lost to Brandon (1-0), Madison Central (4-0), and Warren Central (1-0). The games were 30-minute scrimmages.
The Lady Wildcats hosted a preseason tournament as well on Saturday, but no scores were reported.
MHS opens its regular season on Tuesday when the girls and boys teams travel to Starkville High School. The girls' match begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys' match.
Both squads visit Oak Grove on Thursday before hosting Pearl on Saturday at the Jaycees Soccer Complex. The girls match begins at noon, with the boys starting at 2 p.m.
West Lauderdale begins its season on the road Tuesday against Columbus, before hosting Starkville Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Northeast Lauderdale girls and boys begin Tuesday at Newton High School.
Preview roundups of the boys and girls high school soccer teams in Lauderdale County are planned for Thursday's Meridian Star.
