West End Elementary vandalized

The Meridian Police Department began investigating this morning vandalism that struck West End Elementary School on Wednesday night.
West End Elementary, 3930 14th St., houses kindergarten through third grade.
MPD Lt. Wade Johnson said today that the investigation is in its initial stages.
Ann Gordon, school bookkeeper and secretary, said seven classroom windows and two large office windows were broken.
Gordon said she doesn't know if the seven broken classroom windows are in one classroom or several; school officials were still making rounds and checking damage this morning. She also didn't know if the classrooms themselves were vandalized or if any classroom items were stolen.
Maintenance personnel discovered the vandalism when they arrived between 6:30 and 7 this morning, Gordon said. They called the MPD. Investigators remained on campus until just before 8 a.m., she said.
Gordon said she doesn't know how much it will cost to replace the windows, but she expects it to be expensive. She said school maintenance workers will probably install the classroom windows today while children take physical education classes.
She said classes are going on as usual.
