Meridian topples Southeast

The Meridian High School Lady Wildcats remained undefeated Tuesday night with a 16-5 victory over county rival Southeast Lauderdale.
Meridian ups its record to 3-0, while the Lady Tigers fell to 0-4.
Katie Compton got the win, and is now 2-0, while Jennifer Butler took the loss.
The junior varsity also won 9-7, to up their record to 2-1.
Meridian's multiple hitters were Erin Murphy, Laura Bowles, and Compton, all with two, while Andra Daniels and Raven Williams had three. Butler and Madison Davis had two hits for Southeast.
Murphy and Stephenie Mosley had home runs for Meridian, and Valerie Sherman had a triple. Butler had a triple for the Lady Tigers.
Meridian had 17 hits and two errors, while Southeast got 10 hits and made eight errors.
The Lady Wildcats took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, when Murphy, Mosley, Bowles and Ashley Brown, all crossed the plate.
Mosley and Bowles scored in the second, making it 6-0.
Southeast got on the board in the third when Lindsey Raines, Lindsey Graham, Laura Carmichael and Davis scored, cutting the score to 6-4. Daniels scored for the Lady Cats in the third, putting Meridian back up 7-4.
Stephenie Nelson and Brown made it 9-4 in the fourth.
Davis scored the Lady Tigers final run in the fifth.
Artesian Boyd, running for Sherman, and Williams scored in the fifth, putting Meridian up 11-5.
The Lady Wildcats then got five runs in the sixth when Brown, Eron Hodgins, Daniels, Williams and Ebonee Ball, running for Compton, all rounded the bases, making the final score 16-5.
Meridian, which is ranked sixth, will travel to number one West Lauderdale Thursday, to take on the Lady Knights.
