WILSON, N.C. The Meridian 13-year-old all-stars remained undefeated in the Babe Ruth World Series Monday with a 5-3 victory over Taylorsville, Utah.
Drew Snider was the winning pitcher as he struck out five batters. He gave up five hits and three walks during his seven innings on the mound. Taylorsville used four pitchers, who were pounded by Meridian batters for eight hits
Snider, Ryan Bennett and Tyler McMullen all were credited with doubles. McMullen went two-for-three at the plate, while Snider was two-for-four. Meridian left 10 runners on base while Taylorsville stranded six.
Meridian scored two in the third and three in the fourth. Taylorsville answered with a run in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Bennett walked and scored Meridian's first run on an error. Michael Pogue singled in Snider later in the third inning to give Meridian a 2-0 edge.
Griffin started the scoring in the fourth inning. After hitting a single to center field and then stealing second, Griffin advanced to third on a fielder's choice and then scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Bennett doubled in Rob Bullock for an RBI. Bennett later took advantage of a couple of Taylorsville errors to score Meridian's final run of the night.
