Rather than pat themselves on the back, business leaders plan to use the East Mississippi Business Development Corp.'s annual meeting this week to highlight community accomplishments of the past year.
The organization's annual meeting and dinner is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Frank Cochran Center in Highland Park. Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott is scheduled to be the event's keynote speaker.
The organization's meeting will highlight some of those projects including The Grand Opera House revitalization, a new industrial park, and a new city parking garage in an audio-visual presentation after dinner.
The EMBDC also will recognize its board of directors and its newly re-elected chairman, Glen Deweese.
The meeting and dinner originally had been set for the Mississippi State University Meridian Campus. Now the event will be at the Frank Cochran Center in order to accommodate a larger-than-expected crowd.
Organizers already sold more than 480 tickets to the event. While Lott is a big draw, Deweese said he believes many people are excited about opportunities on the horizon.
Tickets for the event are $20 each or $160 for a table of eight. For more information, contact the EMBDC at 693-1306.
