Both Meridian Dixie Youth squads suffered their first World Series loss Tuesday night in South Carolina
In Florence, S.C., the Meridian Pre-Majors dropped a hard fought 5-4 decision to Georgia to fall into the loser's bracket. The Mississippi state champions will face Florida today at 5:30 p.m. with the loser ousted from the tourney.
John Iverson, the winner in Saturday's opening round 4-3 victory over Alabama, took the loss, but also had two of Meridian's 12 hits, which included a double. Tyler Maxwell and McMullen also had two hits apiece, while Ike Munn and Maurice Cole each had a key hit.
Meridian put Florida in the loser's bracket with their 5-4 victory Sunday in which Jamie Fontaine got the win and Bo Davis had an inside-the-park home run.
The Meridian Majors, playing in North Charleston, S.C., fell to the host team 7-2 and will try to stave off elimination today at 4 p.m. when they take on Virginia. North Charleston, the only unbeaten of the four remaining teams, will take on Texas tonight at 7 p.m.
Ryan Clay suffered the loss.
Mann Dubose continued to swing a hot stick with a pair of hits, while Phillips Garrett and Matt Creighton both doubled.
Both the Dixie Youth Pre-Majors and Majors championship games are set for Thursday night.
