A former Lamar School student was injured Sunday when a friend accidentally shot the teen-ager in the temple while playing with a handgun.
Eddie Jellenc, 19, who now lives in Columbia, Tenn., remained in critical condition Monday after being airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Edward Jellenc, the teen's father, who still lives in Meridian, said his son and a friend had found the gun and were playing with it the day before the shooting.
Edward Jellenc said the bullet ricocheted off of his son's jaw bone and did extensive damage to the throat area. Jellenc said his son will go through several months of rehabilitation before he can return to normal life.
