Meridian Community Band performs today at Bonita mall
The Meridian Community Band will present its annual patriotic concert today at Bonita Lakes Mall. The concert will begin at noon outside JC Penney. The public is invited to attend and may bring folding chairs. The concert is sponsored by Meridian Community College.
Archusa to present
fireworks display
The staff at Archusa Creek Water Park in Quitman will hold their Second Annual Fireworks Display on July 3, at 9 p.m. Admission is $1 per person. For more information, call Quitman City Hall at 776-3728.
Meridian plans
July 4 celebration
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the Cellular South Pops Concert July 4, at 8 p.m. The free concert will be held at Bonita Lakes Park, and will feature patriotic music, the 1812 Overture with live cannon fire, an NAS Meridian flyover and a fireworks display sponsored by the City of Meridian. The fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.

Kemper to hold
memorial service
Kemper County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Veterans Memorial Service July 4 on the courthouse square in DeKalb. Entertainment will begin at 4 p.m., with a wreath-laying ceremony and flyover by NAS Meridian pilots at 5 p.m.
The speakers will be U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., and Capt. William Carrico, commanding officer of NAS Meridian.
Fireworks will begin at dusk at the baseball field at the corner of Highway 16 and Highway 39 in DeKalb in memory of Rosemary Johnson, who started the tradition 21 years ago. The tradition is continued now by her daughters Elizabeth Johnson and Becky Calvert.
Charity sale benefits
Hope for Children
The Hope for Children Guild will hold a "Gigantic Jumble Sale in the Gym" July 6-7, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at the old Masonic Home for Children in Meridian.
The Masonic home operated for years and accumulated many household items that need to be sold. Currently, Hope for Children is under renovation and will soon supply long-term housing for abused and neglected children.
The facility is located at 2414 24th Ave. in Meridian. All proceeds will be donated to the Hope for Children Foundation.
Non-clothing donations are appreciated and will be accepted at the Hope for Children administrative office between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Please call 553-8660 before you drop by.
Coin show set
for July 7
The Capital City Coin and Currency Show will be held July 7, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Clarion Hotel in Jackson. The hotel is located at the Interstate 55 High Street exit. Admission is free and appraisals will be offered. Numismatic items may be bought, sold and traded.
The event is hosted by the Greater Jackson Coin Clubs. For more information, call (601) 932-2007.
Make-A-Wish Foundation
to meet in Meridian
The Make-A-Wish Foun-dation of Mississippi will hold a Meridian Volunteer Luncheon July 12, from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., at Highland Baptist Church.
Anyone interested in becoming a Make-A-Wish volunteer may attend an orientation session from 11:15 a.m.-11:45 a.m., and then join other volunteers at the luncheon. There is no charge to attend. The church is located at 3400 27th St.
The Make-A-Wish Foun-dation is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
