Ivy wins Gulf States Junior PGA tourney

Joshua Ivy of Quitman shot a second round 77 to win first place in the 12-13 age group in the Gulf States Junior PGA tournament held this week at Canton Country Club.
A total of 26 players from Mississippi and Louisiana competed in the event.
Brok Hollingshead of Meridian shot a second round 84 to finish in 13th place.
Meridian Community College's Morgan Stewart has signed a national letter-of-intent to play golf at Delta State.
At MCC, Stewart was named to the All-Region 23 Team and seven all-tournament teams during a banner sophomore season that was capped in the NJCAA Men's Golf Championship in Texas.
Delta State finished third in the Gulf South Conference and tied for sixth in the NCAA South Region this year.
This week will be a busy one for tournaments in immediate vicinity.
Dancing Rabbit Golf Club near Philadelphia will host a pro-am Wednesday at the Oaks course. Openings for amateurs are still available. For more information, contact Mike Reynolds at 601-663-0011.
Philadelphia Country Club will host a two-person scramble night tournament Friday. For more information, contact PCC club pro Michael Novorot at 601-656-8512.
Lakeview Golf Course will host a two-person scramble Saturday with a 9 a.m. start. Entry fee for the one-day tournament is $40 per person. That includes greens fee and golf cart. The tournament is sponsored by the American Legion T.C. Carter Post 21 for the purpose of raising funds to purchase furniture for the new Post 21 home on I-20. Briarwood Country Club will be hosting the Buddy McGhee Six-Person Scramble to benefit the American Cancer Society, Saturday-Sunday. Entry fee is $300 per team and teams must be entered by Thursday. Golfers should form their own teams. To register, call the Briarwood Golf Shop at 601-681-6185. Tee times are 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Decatur Country Club will give the area's golfers a chance to show their skills Saturday-Sunday when it hosts the East Central Mississippi Individual Tournament. For more information, contact Jay Bowen at 601-635-5186 or 601-635-2111 ext. 243.
June 25 finds the Philadelphia Country Club playing host to a four-person scramble in the first-annual American Heart Association Golf Classic. The tournament begins with a 10 a.m. start. Entry fee is $100 per golfer which includes greens fee, cart, two mulligans per golfer, lunch, and awards reception. For more information, contact The American Heart Association at 601-693-7500. The deadline to enter is Friday.
Briarwood Country Club will host the Mississippi Girls Junior State Am June 26-27.
Northwood Country Club will host the Bill Davis-Fourth of July Tournament, June 29-July 1. Entry fee is $375 per team with the field for the medal play event limited to 96 teams. Tee times are 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day.
Dancing Rabbit Golf Club and Silver Star Hotel and Casino are offering a premium golf package good through Sept. 30. Included in the package are greens fees on 18 holes, cart, accommodations at the Silver Star Hotel, and a continental breakfast. You may also attend a golf clinic taught by a PGA professional with different topics daily. Packages are as follows: $136 for 18 holes of golf on weekdays (Monday through Thursday) and $156 for 18 holes on weekends (Friday-Sunday). For more information, call 1-800-557-0711.
