Northeast Trojans come up short at 4A state

The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans shot the low round of the day in the final round of the Class 4A StateGolf Tournament at Dixie Country Club in Laurel, but it still wasn't enough as Scooter Holloway's Trojans had to settle for second place to Petal, despite recording a final day of 309.
The Trojans fired a composite score of 627, 10 shots behind Petal's 617.
Clinton Hales led the way for the Trojans with a 73, fourth place out 130 golfers.
Other scores for NEL were: John Barr's 77, Matt Downing's 79, Brian Stringer's 80 and A. J. Long's 83.
Oxford High School also tied for second with a 627 score. The NEL seniors have finished seventh, fourth twice and now second in the state match.
Clarkdale finishes 6th: Clarkdale golf coach Ronny Roberts called it two of the worst rounds his team has played all season.
It translated into a sixth place finish at the Class 2A State Golf Tournament at Wolf Hollow Golf Club at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
Natchez Cathedral secured the win with a total of 652. Clarkdale carded a 686 on a day that saw a 45 minute rain delay in the afternoon.
Individual scores for the Bulldogs were: Daniel Bole, 151Tyler Phillips, 171, William Clinton, 181, Jared Culpepper, 188 and Paul Gowen's 185.
Boles' score of 151 tied him for second place overall.
