Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency Director Eddie Ivy resigned Monday during an executive session with the board of supervisors. His resignation is effective May 15.
Ivy said he will pursue a full-time career with Barham Funeral Home, where he has worked in a part-time capacity for about a year.
He said he doesn't know if supervisors will appoint an interim director in his absence or if they will hire a replacement immediately. The agency's assistant director is Jamie Bunyard.
A native of Quitman, Ivy began working in emergency services in 1988. Starting as a volunteer in Clarke County, he worked his way up to director of the Clarke County Emergency Management Agency in 1992. In June 1994, he began his seven-year tenure as director at LEMA.
