Eagles earn top seed in Region 23 baseball tourney

The field is set.
The 2001 Region 23 Baseball Tournament schedule has been set and Meridian Community College is once again the host site for the annual event. "There are some great teams coming into the tournament and this is always a great tournament for the fans," MCC head coach Russ McNickle said.
The seeding for the tournament has also been set for the four day tournament. Meridian will enter the tournament as the number one seed having won the Miss-Lou Conference. Mississippi Gulf Coast comes in at the number two slot with Mississippi Delta following at number three.
Bossier Parish will enter the tournament at the number four seed. Bossier Parish is currently 42-12 on the season and ranked 7th in the nation according to the Division I NJCAA Baseball Poll. Northeast Mississippi checks in at the number five seed and Jones enters the tournament at number six.
The tournament is set to begin May 10th with a 1p.m. game that features Mississippi Gulf Coast and Northeast Mississippi. The 4 p.m. contest matches Bossier Parish and Mississippi Delta. In the nightcap of the opening day Meridian will square off against Jones will game time set for 7 p.m.
The tournament will be double elimination and the winner will face the Region 22 winner from Alabama to earn a chance at a World Series berth.
