The Lamar School Raiders came into the Academy AAA South State Championship with an undefeated record.
So it was no surprise that the host Raiders obliterated the field Tuesday winning by 44 strokes over second place Central Hinds by a tally of 305 to 351 at Briarwood Country Club.
Reid Davis finished up his prep career at the course with a 75, good for medalist honors. He shot a 36 on the front nine and a 39 on the back.
Davis cited positive factors and a solid supporting cast as the reason fore the successful day and season thus far.
Davis, who will play for Ole Miss next year, said his primary club on this day was his driver. He also took a moment to look toward his golfing future.
The Raiders advance on to 3A State next Monday and after that, it's the Overall State Tournament the following Thursday.
Lamar coach Doyle Bryan attributed the win to hard work and the team's desire to achieve its goals.
Lamar School has won five out of the last six titles and if this year is any indication, the Raiders are in the driver's seat for another.
Other Lamar scores were Winston Powell with a 76, J.T. Williamson and Austin Holmes with a 77, Derrick Smith fired an 83 and Patton Valentine secured an 86.
MPSA Class A Central State Tournament: The Newton County Academy Generals captured the tournament which played at The Refuge in Jackson, with a composite of 349.
Other area teams involved were Wayne Academy (375); and Central Academy (376).
Joseph Smith from Heidelberg Academy was the co-medalist, firing an 81. He will advance to the Academy A State Tournament that will be held Thursday at NAS Meridian.
David Burt from NCA was the other medalist with an 81. Other individual scores for the Generals were as follows: Chris Bounds, 84; Nathan Stamper, 89; and Chance Nicholson with a 95.
Patton Stanley led the Jaguars with an 84, followed by an 85 from Kerby Jordan. Barett Tynes and Justin Hutcherson collected a 96 and a 110, respectively.
For Central, it was Nick Pappas with an 89, Walter Fields, 92; Josh Cade, 95 and Craig Giesbrecht scored a 100.
