A 31-year-old Meridian man was arrested Monday after a homeowner surprised him in her home and gave chase when he ran from the scene, according to police reports.
Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department said Jimmy R. Cole, of 1207 33rd Ave., was being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on $25,000 bond, $10,000 for the burglary charge and $15,000 for the robbery charge.
Johnson said the victim reported she came home and encountered a stranger, who allegedly struck her and stole her purse. The intruder fled the victim's home in his car.
Cole was apprehended in a residential area off Highway 39 North by deputies and Meridian police, Johnson said.
Johnson said Cole was officially charged late Monday night and is expected to make an initial court appearance within the next few days.
