Rally pulls Lady Dogs through

They had to rally for two runs in their last at-bat, but the host Lady Bulldogs remained unbeaten against Mississippi competition with a 3-2 win over North Pontotoc in Friday' action in the seventh-annual Clarkdale Spring Fling at Northeast Park.
In other games involving area teams, Union beat Northeast Lauderdale 7-3 and Newton County blanked Louisville 7-0.
In other early Friday games, Pascagoula nipped Grenada 1-0 behind Shanna Walters' two-hitter. Walters struck out 12.
Winter Guthrie tossed a no-hitter to lead East Central to a 2-0 win over Terry.
Gautier slipped past Clinton 3-2, while Madison Central edged Harrison Central 2-1.
Friday's late games will be in Sunday's edition of The Meridian Star, along with Saturday's results.
Clarkdale 3, North Pontotoc 2: Clarkdale erased a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to improve to 10-3.
Morgan Wright hit a two-out single and scored after Lindsey Stamm's fly ball to right field was booted for a three-base error. Stamm then scored on a passed ball.
North Pontotoc's Lady Vikings got their runs in the first and fourth frames after receiving leadoff walks.
Wright, Stamm, Ashley Shelby, JorD'an Orr, and Brandi Wright each had a single as Clarkdale outhit North Pontotoc 5-1.
The only hit for the Lady Vikings was a single by April Moss.
Emily Howard was the winning pitcher, while Amanda Campbell took the loss.
Union 7, Northeast Lauderdale 3: Union erased a 3-2 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning in beating the Lady Trojans.
Morgan Breland had a triple for Union, while Morgan Milling, Lauren White, Frances McDougle, LaSaundra Harrison, and Marley Smith each had a single.
Smith was the winning pitcher as Union improved to 6-1.
Raleigh Odom, Jana Olczak, and Jennifer Bristow each had a single for Northeast, 1-3.
Olczak was the losing pitcher.
Newton County 7, Louisville 0: April Bufkin (5-0) struck out nine and gave up only one hit in her four innings as the defending Class 1A/2A/3A state champion Lady Cougars upped their record to 8-0.
Krissi Harris had a single and a double for Newton County. Dominique Mapp had a pair of singles, while Kristal Burton, Betsy Clark, Shanna Jones, and Jennifer Williamson each had a double as the Lady Cougars outhit Louisville 9-1.
Louisville's only hit was a single by Sheneaka Cistrunk.
