Meridian police are investigating an early Friday morning accident that claimed the life of a 22-year-old Meridian man.
Lauderdale County Coroner Marl Cobler said James Christopher Williams of 3217 Grandview Ave., was pronounced dead at 6 a.m.
Williams' truck was discovered at 5:26 a.m. on H Street in the area of the Old General Box Co. Lt. Wade Johnson, Meridian Police Department spokesman, said investigators are not sure what caused Williams' red pick up truck to leave the road and strike a concrete retaining wall. There were no witnesses to the accident, he said.
Investigators are also unsure of when the accident occurred. Williams was reportedly last seen leaving his work at Outback Steakhouse around 11 p.m.
Cobler said Williams died of massive internal chest trauma. An autopsy was scheduled Friday night in Jackson, he said. The initial autopsy report should be returned sometime in the next few days.
Johnson said officers with the Advanced Accident Investigation Unit are in charge of the investigation.
Williams is the son of James and Carroll Williams.
