Learning was the object, but it was fun that was on the agenda.
Zachary was one of about 100 Boy Scouts who took part in Saturday's Meridian Community College Merit Badge University Day an annual event geared toward using professionals to guide Scouts through an array of subject matters.
Among the potential badges to be earned in a matter of hours as opposed to days were electronics, plumbing, cinematography, theater, photography and space exploration.
Tingle said other sessions during the day-long event included the making of a 30-second promo during the cinematography class. Professional actor and instructor at MCC, Elliott Street, helped several Scouts earn badges during a theater class.
Some Scouts were instructed by professionals on how to design and create a bottle rocket that the Scouts were allow to fire before closing ceremonies.
In all, 28 merit badge sessions were offered to the Scouts, said Shirley Nell Goodman, dean of occupational education at MCC and dean for the day of the MCC Merit Badge University.
Zachary couldn't have agreed more.
Scouts must earn 21 required badges before becoming an Eagle Scout.
